vintagefest 2009

as you can see, vintagefest was a total blast!  the gman wanted to bring home lots of jenni's vintage christmas decorations.  she gave him this sweet tiny parasol.  i don't know what she was thinking; it was demolished by noon.  but you know jenni's such a generous soul.

i spent most of the day hanging with boys.  i think i wore them out as they were much less violent by our fourth trip to the hotel's pool.  we also watched the goonies, mib, and aliens in the attic.  hey! i think we covered 3 decades with our movie choices.  oh! and i totally enjoyed watching alabama slaughter the gators over ny ny pizza.  

towards the end the boys were practically comatose, so i finally got to hang with the girls.  so much fun.  enjoyed meeting teri from louisiana, watching april from studio calico create a couple masterpieces, and visiting with kellidarr superstar who i hadn't seen in a while.   great great day!  you should come next year!

dental extractor for hire . . .

so this is my ode to thanksgiving cooking.  scrambled eggs and a blueberry/raspberry combo of jiffy muffin mixes.   the gman thought i was martha.  or he would have if he knew martha.  i'm sure you all are now worried about poor us having scrambled eggs and muffins for thanksgiving.  never fear though.  that was only brunch.  sherri invited us over for dinner.  serious score and no cooking on my part.  then shirley had us over for leftovers the next day.  score again.  our friends rock.

now the week before turkey day the gman got on my bad side.  he brought home his mid-term progress report with THREE U's on it.  now i know this i'm a boy and i really don't care mentality runs in my family.  i have 2 brothers and several nephews who suffer from it.  i guess i was thinking not MY son.  but yes.  my son.  three u's all in sight words.  i fussed at him all the way home and informed him that mommy was cutting off his cash flow at target, walmart, walgreens, etc.  he sounded so humble and apologetic.  but then as soon as he got home the little stinker got a paper towel from the kitchen and set to work on a wiggly tooth.  he had the sucker out in an hour flat.  no lie.  and lucky for him the tooth fairy was somewhat amused and gave him a fiver.  with that and some other loose change he'd been saving up he managed to purchase this bad boy.  he was actually shaking with excitement when he carried him out to the car in his very own target back.  as soon as he got buckled in he reverently pulled him out and proclaimed, "he's my FRAVit all the way to JEsus!" 

i didn't actually get a picture of that gap-toothed grin, because he set to work on the next one well before mommy got shutter happy.  here he is after violently ripping out the next one.  i couldn't get a decent smile from him showing the most recent losses.  this one made 5 gone.  the two bottom middles have grown back in and it was the two flanking these that he yanked.  you can see here that g's tooth fairy likes variety in her gift giving.  this time around she left a movie gift card.  g knew it was for the movies too without me even telling him.  he doesn't know his sight words, but he somehow knows the important stuff.

but wait.  there's more.  you guessed it.  he ripped out that other top one a couple days later and got a lego giftcard that looked mysteriously like an image from the lego site we've been frequently.  seems our tooth fairy hangs out in the same places  we do.  guess she's cool like that.  now if you're the gman you're think why stop there?  monday morning he asked me when his "grinders" would come out.  i told him in no uncertain terms that he was done with losing teeth for a good long while and if he pulled any more the tooth fairy would give him a citation.  seriously.  but hey.  g's always on the lookout for a fast buck and he's obviously a professional in the tooth pulling arena.  if you've got a kid with a reluctant wiggler i'm sure he'd be happy to help with any dental removals as long as he gets a cut of the tooth fairy loot.

the december kits and galleries are up at jbs mercantile!  i actually designed the project this month!  talk about intimidating!  i also did two misties, one regular, and a mini.  the design team did some fabulous stuff too!  head on over and take a peek . . .

i've been meaning to post these pics since last sunday after i took them.  guess i've been busy doing other things.  not sure what. 
they were all taken downtown on vanderbilt's campus.   fall has really been lingering here.  it's so nice.  i love fall weather. 

wasn't g so sweet to pose so nicely for me so many times?  i must have threatened him with something, although i really can't remember what now.

here he and his little buddy said they were in jail.  sometimes this is a good place for t hem.

here i asked him to walk the line.  he decided to dance it.

now this is a classic example of why they needed to be locked up.  they threw those leaves all over me.  i was so itchy afterward!

i decided to issue them a pardon though.  they're way too cute for my own good.

contents of a little boy's pocket . . .

g went to kids' club thursday after school because i had to teach an inservice on practical spanish at one of our local elementaries.  as i was getting him ready for bed that night i heard a lot of jinging in his pocket and pulled out all these treasures that he'd picked up on the playground.  i thought "awwwwwww" and "ewwwwwww" all at the same time.  i'd definitely prefer this stuff in his pockets than what he brought home the day before.  a mini-sharpie that he got in the cafeteria.  he said they were giving them away.  who gives a kindergartener a sharpie?  did laundry that night and of course i didn't check his pockets.  i must start checking his pockets.  ruined two of my shirts and several smaller items.  it could have been worse i guess.  at least it was a load of darks and not one of those days that i lazyily threw the khakis and greys into the mix.

 
friday i got an unexpected treat in the mail from american crafts.  i call this "cotents of a happy mommy's box."  it's the new letterpress release.  i LOVE it!  can't wait to use it.  here's a close-up of some of my favorite pieces:

i seem to have several more unshared layouts sitting on my laptop.  these two almost make me wish for bright sunshiny summer days already.  don't get me wrong, i'm loving this gorgeous fall weather we've been having, but the bit about dusk coming round at 4:30 makes me want to go into hibernation mode earlier than i should.

stayed up past midnight getting all my work done last night.  i've been a pumpkin all day today.  i really don't know how you night owls do it.  i won't be doing it again tonight, i can tell you that.  layout and mini-album posted on the jbs inspo blog.  now i'm outtie.  night all.

well, i didn't get my new jbs mercantile layouts edited today . . .
