we ate a home cooked meal and i didn't have to cook it thanks to an invite from shirley. there was even a new 12 pack of coke chilling in the fridge. mmmm. after dinner we got to work filling her flower beds with begonias, zinnias, columbines, marigolds, bleeding hearts, and lillies. so beautiful. and such rewarding labor. i had dirt under my nails and between my toes. love that.
you can see that g had a fabulous time as well. the ice cream truck came by while we were out working and he scored a watermelon rocket. the charming little ditty blaring from the truck's speakers sounded way familiar and eventually i realized it was one from my childhood . . .
oh i wish i were a little glass of coke . . . glass of coke . . . oh i wish i were a little glass of coke . . . glass of coke . . . i would go down with a slurpy and come up with a burpy . . . oh i wish i were a little glass of coke . . . glass of coke . . .
the other verses were:
i wish i were a little swishy fish - i would swim in the nude-y without a bathing suit-y
i wish i were a little bar of soap - i would slippy and a slidey all over people's hineys
i wish i were a little tweety bird - i would sit upon the steeple and PEE all over people . . .
my mom used to insist that last one was PEER at all the people, but boy was she wrong. we girl scouts never sang such tame lyrics once we bridged over into junior status. ha!
i seem to have lost focus here . . . better wrap things up with today's critter count . . . 1 stinkbug, 5 grubs, 2 caterpillars, 1 inchworm, and the usual haul of worms.
and the g quote of the day:
"that hairy caterpillar is SO snuggly . . . he's snuggly for the bed . . ."
sweet dreams! :D
