my prize catch!

we had such a lovely weekend. can i call hanging out with boys all weekend lovely? i think so! saturday was our last cub scout event of the summer . . . a picnic at the bryant's grove. you can see g was totally in his element. he was also totally elated to catch another crawdad all on his own and some micro minnows for his tank.

he also graciously alerted me to this beautiful swallowtail hanging out near his fishing spot. he knows how much i love chasing butterflies with my camera. does anyone know what the plant here is? i thought the flowering balls were so cool.

we also nabbed our first tennesee lizard. I say "we" because mommy had to do the capture honors on this one. g's not quite fast enough yet. it's a cutie, isn't it? thankfully g let it go after lunch, so i didn't get talked into purchasing yet another creature habitat.

sunday was just as gorgeous. can i get an amen on this awesome weather?

g was anxious to get back to the lake, so we took his bestie there after our first cub scout planning meeting of the new scouting year.

it was too windy to find anything in the shallows and too infested with humans to find anything in the lizard hunting grounds (aka park bathrooms), so they settled in for grasshopper grabbing.

chichi was very much fascinated by g's catch of the day. she was glued to grasshopper network for over an hour. today we even let a couple out for her to chase. what? you don't let bugs loose in your house?

and this is this evening. while i was walking laps g was stalking minnows again. it took him a good 45 minutes to capture this one. the photo doesn't quite capture his pride and elation when he first told me of his success. for him this was like a major goal or winner the spelling bee. he was pumped! so proud of my nature loving boy. :)
