art journaling calvin style

 
i have finally begun an art journal!  hooray!  it is very tiny.  i'm doing it in a jbs 4x4 inch chipboard mini-album.  i was already feeling waaaaaaaaay behind last night on day one of the great race.  i only had one layout and thus one point to my name while celeste had already racked up 14 points and paula had 6.  oy.  i decided i would just journal one little page to get a half point.  it was really rather daunting to sit in front of a blank canvas with just a few minutes before bedtime and wonder where to begin.  i finally decided to write down a few words i was feeling.  we are having hard times with the reading again and i am feeling frustrated and mad that i get frustrated with him, so i wrote, "i am a teacher.  i love him so.  why do i have so much more patience with other children? less with my own."  i added a few bits from the mess in front of me and was happy that i'd documented my emotions and begun a new creative journey.  i then decided to throw together a little tag to make it an even 2 points.  you see in calvinball a layout gets a full point, but a mini-album is only a half point.  we didn't really set points for tags, but it's calvinball and i can make up the rules.  tags get a half point.  there.  so i made my little tag while in the same mood and with the same stuff in front of me.  this afternoon i made the realization that it could be the facing page for my journaling.  i love it.  so there you go.  in february my art journal every day will be a few words and a tag in this little mini.  it's a great place to get my feet wet and then maybe next month i'll find the time and energy to go bigger and messier.
