goodness. i've only been gone from the blog for a day, but i feel like i have so much to report! i got my vintage christmas layout posted on the jbs inspiration blog. there are detail shots and notes about it over there as well as a couple cards and some projects from jenni.
we have, of course, been packing in the playdates and adventures. page and jack came over monday morning to go crawdad fishing. g showed them how to make their own poles. page had to dig into my scrappy stash to embellish hers with a pink ribbon handle (thank you american crafts, lol). monday night we went over to play with jeremiah and have baked spaghetti for dinner (thanks tammy!). tuesday we had a cub scout hike, today g went to the local swim park with his dad, tomorrow is mostly up for grabs (any takers?) then friday mason and chelle are coming over in the morning and hopefully we'll be catching up with sherri's crew in the evening. and let's not forget lunch with melissa on saturday! what a fun week before we have to start thinking seriously about school (but we don't want to talk about that).
i have an addiction to taking random flower and butterfly pics that i rarely do anything with. here is a classic example of both in one photo. bonus points! i snapped this on the (sweaty) cub scout hike. g said the flora looked like florida and in fact it did. i love that he notices thins like that.
we made a big grocery run earlier in the week as i've decided i need to start "cooking" again. i have to put cooking in parenthesis to emphasize the fact that i don't mean real cooking. i can't really call boiling corn cooking and i for real didn't cook the rotisserie chicken and obviously i can't call cutting papaya and lime cooking (a taste i picked up in guatemala. btw, salt and lime is way excellent on corn on the cob too - picked up that trick in honduras). still it was good and a big improvement. i did cook the green beans, but that was an easy peasy (the best kind) recipe that i got from jenni. buy fresh green beans, coat them in olive oil, lay them on a cookie sheet, sprinkle with sea salt, and bake at 425 till they look crispy and a little brown in spots. g scarfed them up and said this was the best dinner i ever made.
and lookie here. last night at about 9:00 we came home with a new corolla. i drove the last one for a solid 10 years (and am kinda sad to see it go, but it is going to a good home with g's abuelos in honduas). you may be a bit surprised by the candy apple red as i don't tend to be a flashy person. i'm a bit surprised by it too. renee says it goes well with my floozie hair and emo toes though and this makes perfect sense to me.
in typical fashion, i do not seem to have much to show for being home alone all day. i did get this layout started with the jbs mercantile august kits. i am loving this months exclusives! oh! and i am also excited that i finally remembered to sign up for shimelle's newest class, "explore," and was tickled to find out that it is tied to ali's "a week in the life." that i was also planning on doing. i'd better hit the sack now, because i should have some good reads in my inbox tomorrow! :)
